President Tinubu emphasized the need for unity and reconciliation, urging the Ogoni people to set aside past conflicts and work together towards a common goal. He acknowledged that while the past cannot be rewritten, his administration is committed to correcting historical anomalies and promoting peace, development, and a clean environment in Ogoniland.
To achieve this mandate, President Tinubu directed the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to coordinate negotiations and ensure inclusive consultation and mutual understanding. The President also called on ministers, the NNPCL, and the Rivers State Government to cooperate with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to achieve this goal.
Governor Fubara, who led the Ogoni delegation, thanked President Tinubu for his support and commitment to the Ogoni people. He pledged the delegation's commitment to adhering to the President's instructions and providing necessary support to achieve the government's objectives.
The National Security Adviser commended the Ogoni people for their trust in President Tinubu and for embracing dialogue as a path to meaningful progress and enduring solutions. He noted that the over 50-member delegation represented the rich diversity of Ogoni society, reflecting various constituencies, interests, and viewpoints.
This development comes after President Tinubu's earlier commitment to unlocking the human and natural resource potential of Ogoniland, while ensuring environmental and economic security for Nigerian communities ¹. With this renewed pledge, the Ogoni people can look forward to a brighter future, marked by peace, justice, and sustainable development.
