NNPC's Port Harcourt refinery has finally resumed operations, and in a landmark move, it has begun exporting petroleum products. A Dubai-based firm has purchased the first cargo from the refinery, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria's efforts to revamp its refining capabilities.
The Port Harcourt refinery, one of Nigeria's four state-owned refineries, had been out of operation for years. However, with the Nigerian Government's efforts to reduce dependence on imported fuel, the refinery has undergone significant revamping. The refinery is expected to process 60,000 barrels of oil per day, with plans to increase production to its full capacity of 210,000 barrels per day later this year.
The development is a testament to the Nigerian Government's commitment to boosting the country's refining capabilities and reducing reliance on imported fuel. With the refinery's export operations now underway, Nigeria is poised to become a significant player in the global petroleum market.
