NLC Suspends Planned Protest Over Telecoms Tariff Hike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its proposed nationwide protest against the 50% increase in telecommunication tariff. The decision to put the protest on hold was made after a meeting between the labour union and the Federal Government on Monday.

The NLC had earlier threatened to embark on a nationwide protest to express its dissatisfaction with the recent hike in telecommunication tariff, which it described as "anti-people" and "ill-timed." The union argued that the increase would further worsen the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.

However, following the meeting with the Federal Government, the NLC decided to suspend the protest to allow for further negotiations. The labour union is expected to continue engaging with the government to find a solution to the issue.

The suspension of the protest has been seen as a welcome development by many Nigerians, who had expressed concerns about the potential disruption to economic activities that the protest could have caused.

The Federal Government has been under pressure to review the recent hike in telecommunication tariff, which has been widely criticized by Nigerians. The government has maintained that the increase is necessary to generate revenue for the country.

The NLC's decision to suspend the protest has been seen as a temporary reprieve for the government. However, the labour union has made it clear that it will not hesitate to resume the protest if its demands are not met.

As the negotiation between the NLC and the Federal Government continues, Nigerians will be watching with keen interest to see how the issue is resolved.
