NAFDAC Uncovers Alarming Products in Idumota Open Drug Market Raid

In a shocking discovery, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has unearthed a trove of unregistered and counterfeit pharmaceutical products during an ongoing enforcement operation at the notorious Idumota open drug market in Lagos.

Among the alarming finds were:

- Unregistered narcotics with unknown origins and potency.

- Counterfeit GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) medicines, including antibiotics and anti-malarial drugs.

- Vaccines stored in unsanitary conditions, including toilets, which compromises their efficacy and safety.

The NAFDAC team, led by Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has been conducting a thorough sweep of the market to rid it of illicit and harmful products.

"The discoveries made during this operation are disturbing, to say the least," Prof. Adeyeye said. "The storage of vaccines in toilets is a clear indication of the blatant disregard for human life and safety by these unscrupulous traders."

NAFDAC has vowed to continue its crackdown on counterfeit and unregistered products, ensuring that only safe and approved medicines are available to the public.

The agency has also called on the public to report any suspicious activities or products to its offices, promising to take swift action against perpetrators.

As the operation continues, NAFDAC is working closely with other regulatory agencies, law enforcement, and stakeholders to address the menace of counterfeit and unregistered products in Nigeria.

The agency's efforts aim to protect the health and well-being of Nigerians, while also promoting a safe and regulated pharmaceutical market.
