Lagos Court Discharges Alabi Quadri, Young Nigerian Who Stood Before Peter Obi’s Convoy In Viral Photo

Quadri Alabi, the teenager who gained fame for standing boldly in front of Peter Obi's convoy during the 2023 general elections, has been discharged and acquitted of conspiracy to commit felony and armed robbery charges. The Apapa Magistrate Court, Court 9, sitting at Orege, Ajegunle, ruled that Alabi had no case to answer after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) found no evidence to substantiate the allegations.

Alabi's lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, revealed that his client was framed by neighborhood thugs who felt entitled to a share of the attention and financial support Alabi received after his viral moment. The thugs allegedly abducted Alabi, took him to Amukoko Police Station, and falsely accused him of street fights, later charging him with armed robbery alongside four strangers.

Effiong commended the DPP for standing by the truth and demanded that the police officers involved face disciplinary action. He also called for compensation and a public apology for Alabi, citing the case as an example of corruption and injustice within the Nigeria Police Force.
