The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken bold steps to tackle the harassment of travelers by government agencies at international airports. As announced yesterday, these measures aim to provide a safer and more comfortable experience for passengers.
The new regulations redefine the roles of security agencies at airports. For instance, the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) personnel will partner with Aviation Security (AVSEC) at screening points and conduct roving checks in the arrival hall. Similarly, Department of State Services (DSS) officers will be restricted to the departure and screening areas.

To enhance safety and security, FAAN has also introduced measures such as:
Mobile Courts:
To expedite the prosecution of offenders, especially touts.
- *Meet and Greet Areas*: Designated secure spaces for visitors awaiting arriving passengers.
Zero Tolerance for Misconduct:
Immediate prosecution of any Bureau De Change (BDC) or car-hire staff found loitering or engaging in unauthorized activities.

These measures demonstrate FAAN's commitment to transforming the passenger experience and addressing systemic challenges. By streamlining security protocols and enhancing safety measures, FAAN aims to make Nigeria's international airports more secure, efficient, and passenger-friendly.
On his X handle the Minister of Aviation, Hon. Festus Keyamo wrote; "Yesterday, I approved some far-reaching measures by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) aimed at curbing the menace of harassment of travelers by various agencies of government stationed at our international airports. We have received too many complaints and it is time to act decisively!
